ME and MY MUSIC

In my father’s side, there was no music.
My Mother brought “ MUSIC ” into our family.
She was a good singer !
She learnt a softness for Music from “ Allahabad ”
From the age of “ 2 ”, until “ 16 ”,
she grew up with her brother/sister in “ Allahabad ”
In my childhood, we had a Harmonium and a Tabla
in our House; everybody used to play harmonium

Shri “ Shiv Ram ” Guruji, from Bodhan,
used to come to our house at Shakkarnagar
and teach basic music and simple bhajans !
Even now, I remember those bhajans, hindustani !
I also learnt a little Tabla ..

Then, in the year 1960, we children moved to Sec’bad
My brother got into “ CARNATIC FLUTE ” ..
and he was going to his GURU, Shri T.S. Chandrasekharan
And, in 1963, immediately after my examinations, 12th,
my brother decided that
I would also go to “ Shri T.S.Chandrasekharan ”
and learn FLUTE !

I remember the day .. 13th April, 1963..
when my GURUJI gave me a Flute to handle !
I tried to get sound from the FLUTE ..
but NO SOUND !
It took three days practice for me to produce some Sound !

Now, you know, how integral is FLUTE for PSSM !
